Became the first medication to be listed on the U.S. Medical and Drug Administration’s Schedule II list in April 2010, after a series of breakthrough trials.
It has shown to prevent more than 70,000 cases of schizophrenia in the United States every year, according to the National Institutes of Health.
Last February, the drug in question was found to have antidsychotic effects such as an increase in cerebral activation that’s similar to the effect of antidepressants, as well as a stressed out syndrome, according to the National Institutes of Health.
Dr. Paul Williams, a psychiatric physician from Cleveland, Ohio, told CBS News he wanted to find out the most effective anti-psychotic medication to treat people who suffer from a particular personality disorder, because he was very concerned that some patients who had been prescribed it had developed a depressive state.
When he first started using this medication, Dr. Williams said, he saw his symptoms fade away. It wasn’t, ‘Oh this is so sick, doxycycline he told the host. We were talking to some of our patients and said it took eight weeks to recover. But these things just disappear over time.
